I have a sling that came with my Nagant M44.  How do I clean this crud off my sling without
damaging the sling???

i soaked mine in hot soapy water.

Lye soap.  Takes care of it in a heartbeat.

Could also run it through the dishwasher.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I dunked it in the sink with some dawn and got about 95% of it off.  

Next is the stock....yikes.  ( of course, not in the sink )

+1  Dawn and hot water.  I let it soak for a while then scrubbed with a small brush.
