I've searched here and elsewhere. I want one because:
1) I don't own any Russian rifles and I like the way it looks. 2) Relatively inexpensive surplus and new production ammo to feed it. 3) C&R so less hassle  4) Inexpensive 5) I like fireballs.  So does that pretty much cover it? |

I've got an m38 and I love it. They had them at the columbus gun show today for 50 dollars. You absolutely can not beat that. Mine is pretty accurate. super rugged, kicks hard, definately makes a fireball, I really can't think of anything I don't like about it

Actually, there's no reason to not get several, while they're inexpensive. |

I like the M38's and M91/59's better, just because they are lighter and look cooler.
Hard to find in the shape of some of the "like new, re-arsenaled " M44's but well worth it. Try SOG and ask them (you have to call) for one with an actual M38 stock (most have M44 stocks now), all matching handpick and you wont be disapointed. Mine is awesome. For the 91/59 try allans armory. Of course the correct answer is "GET ALL THREE!" |

I prefer the M38's or M91/59's simply becasue I don't like the feel of the M44 with the bayonet stuck to it. My fovirite Russian version is the 91/30. Great sights for old eyes. A lot quicker to aim than the Mausers.

Dude, get a couple of them.
great prices, great shooters and fun to boot. oh and really reasonable ammo. What more reasons could you want? But the only reason I could think of not to..Is that you'll probably want another after the first and your bank account will suffer.

I can think of a reason not to buy a Russian M-44.......
After you get the Russian one, you will want a Hungarian one, then a Polish one, then...... You'll need to add on a room or take out another mortgage to store them all Welcome to the club

Because they're addictive.  From the top: Finn VKT M91, Russian 91/30, Russian 91/30, Russian M44, Chinese T53, Russian M38. I doubt I'm done yet. My M44 is essentually a shooter, so I want a better 'keeper' for the collection. |

Get at leaest one. I love to shoot mine at the range. With the tin roof over the firing line, nothing stops fellow shooters, as efficiently as it does
 I'm not sure if the falling rust and debris from the tin or the thunder, or the muzzle flash, during evenings

You shouldnt buy one. Seriously, I need as many as possible and Im afraid Im going to have to ask everyone posting in this topic to send me theirs.

No reason , buy one today .
buy one 91/30 one M44 one M38 and one Finn M-39 Stay away from the Czech silver tip ammo. It sticks bad in mine. I love the Albanian. |

These are very expensive and so is the ammo and they are NOT fun to shoot.

Quickly go to Allans Armory and get one of his 91/59s, as soon as you complete that task go to AIM and get one of their M-39 shooter grade Finns.
Buy surplus Russian ammo if you can find it (light) Hungarian and Polish 147 grain is OK. Then go to: http://www.russian-mosin-nagant.com/ and learn everything you can. This Grasshopper is the true path to enlightenment. Quickly "act" do not "think" This for your own good. |

I just bought one today. Russian M44, looks like new, covered in cosmo at the gun show. $90. Makes a nice addition to my M91/30 sniper.

If given a choice between an M-44 and an M-38, get the '38. The bayonet is a PITA after the cool factor wears off. Get one of each. Get them all, and stack the ammo high and deep. It's about as cheap as milsurp gets right now.

Personally the recoil for the M-44 was too much for my shoulder to handle, so I invested in a 5 dollar buffer from walmart. God i love shooting the gun. And don't get me started about the ammo.
