Rimmed? Wouldn't that mean rim fire like a .22?

No, think a rimmed case like a .38 special/.357 magnum, still centerfire.

Exactly.

The .30-30 and .303 British are two more rimmed rifle rounds.

Hey!

The cartridge headspaces on the rim...In most (surplus military) bolt action rifles chambered for this cartridge you hear about issues with closing and opening the bolt. A few of the common problems can be caused by a dirty/corroded chamber or a bolt head that is too long or too short. A bolt head that is too long will prevent the bolt from closing. One that is too short can allow the case to back out of the chamber during firing and bulge and or rupture the case in the web area.

no, it is centerfire (berdan) but it has a rim similar to a hornet or 30-30.    the rim is wider than the base of the cartridge.
