Today I went to the gun show in Fairbanks, Alaska and bought a unique Mauser. It’s unique because it’s a pre WW2 German made Mauser that is chambered from 7.62 NATO. It was made by DWM-Oberndorf for the Brazilian Gov’ment and was originally 7mm. In the 1980’s, Springfield Armory purchased it, and a lot of it’s brothers and sisters, from the Brazilians and re-chambered some of them to 7.62 NATO. They also shortened the barrel to 23 inches. Springfield then sold them to the public.

It is a 1908 model Brazilian Short Mauser. DWM made them from 1908-1914. They were also made in Poland by Radom from 1935-1938.
It has a model 98 action, and should be very strong. It served with the Brazilain army as one of their primary rifles for a long time. The origional barrel was only 22 inches long. Origional rifles would have the Brazilian crest and serial number on the receiver ring. A DWM made model would have marked on the receiver rail: DEUTCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN OBERNDORFaN |
