Mauser ammo question

I know wtih Garands, most people will say shoot the surplus ammo and NOT to shoot the newer ammunition because it is not loaded to mil specs or too hot.

What about ammo for the Mauser?
Can you purchase any new 8mm factory ammo?

Also, when searching for ammo, does any actually list it as 7.92x57mm , 7.92x57JS or just 8mm?
Finally, when searching do you search for any 8mm ammo?

American made factory ammo is made of fine componants but is very weak. The opposire of garand ammo. European made ammo is made of better componants, and is made to proper military velocities.

8mm is common, although the days of when I was buying it in lots of 3,360 rounds for $125 are gone, (last summer) good deals can still be found.

Check out The Ammunition Store, J&G, SOG, AIM surplus, or Inter Ordnance. They will have what you want for a good price.

Just look for 8mm Mauser. Rarely is is 8X57 or 7,92mm

20 minute drive and a Dodge Durango.

Wouldn't have done it if there was shipping. 8-14 cases at a time. They cut me some deals for buying so much.

I also got several cases from SG. They kept screwing up the order and under charging me. I tried it 5 times, they figured it out the last time, but I made out like a bandit the first four.

Most the good ammo and gun places seem to be in Ohio.

But I can get $40 used Glock mags and $30 NIW AR mags here

It is good to be in Ohio, The CMP, AIM, Ammunition Store, SOG.... It is hard on the wallet though.

I have been waiting on the ban to sunset to get my Glock 17. So I have no idea what the mags go for. I just picked up some of the Tapco mags cheap, but found I already had 15 mags courtasy of a friend in the Army. Now I can pull them out and use them since the markings don't make a difference. I have 5 AR's, all pre-ban, and bet I haven't put 200 rounds through all of them combined, so that is a mute point. Mags at shows and most dealers are still insanely high.

The mauser also has no need to care about the pressure curve to gas-cycle the action.

At about .05rnd, stock any year Turk except 1947 (ends of 1400rnd crates are marked). May have a few dud primers, so what.
At .10rnd, stock either Romy or Yugo. Minor pref for the heavier and prettier Yugo if you find both.

If you hunt, the Remington Corelokts are a bit short so you need to be careful working the bolt for them to feed.

Those round nose bullets in general don't feed well in guns designed for military profile ammo.

I've fired Core-Loks in my 98K and my '03 Springfield with no trouble (so far) . I occasionally hunt with my '03 but the damn thing gets heavy fast!

I find Remington catches on the feed ramp. I have a BUNCH of Lapua 200 grain and some S&B 200 grain. They both feed well.

My 185 grain handloads work well as well.

possibly stupid question.
is ammo listed as 7.92x57 8mm and 8x57 all the same dimensions and the correct ammo for a yugo M48?
that's how I'm understanding things from this thread and other sites, just want to be positive

a more specific question. Anyone have experience with 1950's Ecuador ammo?

Yes, it is all the same ammo.

The Equadarian ammo is hit or miss. Some report great results, some report a lot of problems.
Lousy answer I know.
