M38 is the same as M44, minus the bayonet.
10 years or so ago, the M38 was pretty rare. You could get shooter grade M44's for $20, but I only saw one M38. Now they are abundant (for now). All that being said, get both. |

They are about 99% the same except for the bayonet.
The 1938G was a more rare version. It is the most rare followed by the 91/59. They were for issue to mountain troops. I would pick one up becuase they won't be common long. |

I perfer the M44 myself. I have 2 of each.

I have one of both. I personally prefer the M-44, but just because it has a little more aggressive look. I'd recommend picking up one of each. I plan on picking up a M-91 and M-39 (Finnish) next. Spend the extra $25.00 and get them in unissued condition. You won't regret it!
