Czech VZ24 Or Yugo M48? What do you prefer?

Both, on the whole, are better made than even the German Mausers.

The VZ-24 is made on a full length reciever, while the Yugo is slightly shorter.  If you want to convert later on, the Vz will give you more choices.

Most Yugos are in better shape, but cost only a little more.

Nether really have much collector value, with the edge going to the Vz in this area.

As far as shooting, you will never notice the difference really. Just pick a good one.

Most Vz rifles have a straight bolt handle making them hard to put scopes on if you want to sporterize later as well.

In the end, if you want a stock military gun, just look for a good barrel, and go by price.
Stay away from the $69 Vz rifles.  They cost $69 for a reason.

The VZ24's have a reputation of having poor bores. If you want a shooter get the Yugo M48. They were not used during war and many were not issued. You can get a basically new mauser rifle for under $150.00. This is the best deal for a firearm.
There is a variant on the M48 designated the M48BO, which stands for without markings. They were made for the Egyptian army but never shipped. They look very good. I included a url to some pics of one.
The Yugo action is an intermediate length. If you are wanting to build a rifle on the receiver buy the VZ. The Yugo can be rebarrelled to anything but the longest magnums, as the intermediate length action still used the standard 8mm ammo the full length does. It isn't as big a difference as a short length vs magnum length in a Remchester.
