Hello one and all,
I'm not sure which board this post belongs to, but I'll post it on the Precision Rifle board also.

I'm looking to buy (and hopefully own) a Dragunov SVD or any of the clones (i.e. Norinco NDM-86 or Romanian PSL). I live in a not so gun friendly area (Southern California) and was wondering if anyone has attempted such a purchase in California in recent years. I've done some web searching and cannot get a clear picture as to the status of these rifles. It seems to me that if the flash suppresor was missing that there would be no issue with owning any of these in California. Is this correct, and if so, how hard would it be to remove/replace the offending critter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
CW

Even if you removed the flash suppressor / muzzle brake, it would still be illegal in CA because it has a pistol grip and detachable mag. So it meets the SB23 description of an assault weapon. Sorry.
