I had a front sight I swear was welded on. Tried everything. I eventually cut the sight in half, we'll 99.8%. Then cracked it all the way with a rod and hammer.

Mount the barrel in a vice with some scrap leather. Having the gun bounce around on the bench reduces the blow.
Use a brass drift punch and a good weighted hammer. Tap from the left side of the gun to the right. |

Its one of those jobs that after you screw it up the first time you learn all the tricks for the second time. A hammer and brass punch will remove them if all is done correctly. Its not as bad as it first seems. |
