I have a remington 597 .22 LR that I've shot at 100 yds before. It's only got a BSA Walmart scope on it, but it shoots fairly well for me, even at 100 yds.

I do 3 inch groups at 50 yds and 6-7 inch 'swarms' at 100 yds using Federal bulk pak.
I'd give up Sunday dessert forever to tighten that up, but I don't think I'll ever be steady enough again.  200 yds? I'd be afraid I'd miss the berm.  ETA: Spike's dedicated .22, green mountain barrel, and I have every reason to believe that the rifle is better than I am. |

I've shot 300 meters with my Stevens Favorite, with a Marbles tang sight, off of cross sticks. It pings the 300 meter steel reliably every time.

I could "pattern" on a IPSC silhouette target at 350 yards. I had to put the target head at the bottom of my 3X9 scope and hold the vertical centered and they hit in a pretty large pattern on the body 8/10 hits.

In my late teens, I shot a crow at 200 yards with a Mossberg bolt action .22 using open sights. Dropped him DRT.

On our little .22 range we shoot out to 250 all the time. We are using small Railroad tie plates as targets. You really have to listen to know if you hit at that distance but it's a hell of alot of fun.

500 yards.
Fired fifteen rounds at an 18 inch paper target and had all rounds touching. Touching the berm or ground or something, that is. Sure weren't any trace of them on the target. |

We made a steel gong when I was kid. It was 400 yards from the front porch. There was a small painted spot at the top of the frame you aimed at.
Bang............Ding. Bang.............Ding Hand ghe rifle to someone who didn't know about the aiming point. Bang..............<silence> Only a few were smart enough to figure it out. |

I've shot 2-1/4" groups at 200 yards with a Buckmark Carbine/tactical solutions barrel and a shepherd scope. That was the longest range I had access to before the gun was stolen, but based on how accurate the bullet drop compensated reticle was, I have no doubt that I could get hits on a man sized target out to the 500 yards that were marked in the scope view.
Damn, I have got to get another one of those... |

Used to shoot the practice ram (IHMSA Silhouette) at 200 meters with a Ruger MKII pistol, takes a lot of holdover but once you're dialed in you can hit 9 out of 10 fairly easily.

The other day i hit a manhole cover(whats left of it) at 225 yards a couple of times. I kept forgetting my holdover. Couldn't hear it hit but i could see in the scope. After that hit the same manhole cover with a 1903 and that one you could hear a nice twack.

The last time I tried, I was shooting my marlin m60 off of a box (tasco golden antler scope) and I was able to keep the rounds with a 6-8 inch square target. Lots of fun! I'm in the process of putting a bipod on it, and I'm sure that will help. Now I just need to find some steel that I can hear a 'ding' from when I hit it.

I have had numerous Mueller scopes, including APV's, and all have been great. I do a lot of shooting steel at various ranges and can say having a mildot as well a target turrets make life a whole lot easier. I figured I would combine the two things I know and that is Muellers and mildots and recommend the APT. I never thought I would have a need or even like using a mildot but since buying my first I can't imagine nat having one. On my 10/22 I can get hits out to 170 yards without even touching a turret by using just the mildot for holdover. If I want more precision I dial the elevation but most times, because I do shoot steel, I just use the mildot for holdover. I can't imagine trying to do any ranged shooting with the APV. The duplex reticle doesn't work well for ranging or holdover. Another thing about the APV is the turrets are really rather crude and would be very hard to keep track of clicks or return to zero after you are done. Now th APV is a great scope for the money but for any type os shooting where holdover is important it isn't a very good choice. Dolomite |

I have shot ground hogs out to 100 yards or so using HV hollowpoint rounds. But even with these, shot placement is important.
I take squirrels at 40-50 pretty easy using Winchester subsonic HP's. When I was a kid I could knock empty shotgun shells off the berm at 100 yards with my old Marling and a cheap Tasco scope. If Im going after varmints beyond 100 yards, I have a 22-250. |

A friend and I used to shoot clay skeet targets set up on a fallen tree at 200 yards with our rifles. I used a Ruger 77/22 and he used a Remington 541, both firing CCI Mini Mags. Lots of fun.

I hit a 3 gallon bucket at 185 yards with my 10/22. I was sighting it in to hit this woodchuck that wouldn't let me get any closer than that.
