I'm hoping to buy a bolt-action .22 in a few months.  Right now I'm just researching what would be the best.

I want something accurate because I want to be able to shoot stuff (apples, targets, cans, ect) consistently at 100-150 yrds.  I don't know what "accurate" is when it comes to .22's, but would something that will shoot under 3" groups at 100-150 yrds be reasonable?

I would like something $150 or under (used is just as good), but I think I'll go up to around 200 if its worth it.

what would you guys suggest?  Savage any good(wood stock only)? Romanian trainer?

CZ

but its gonna cost a little more

if it were just any .22, it'd be a 10/22

I've had great service out of Marlin's very afforable .22WMRF bolt-action rifles over the years, but I don't know if their .22LRs are as good...

Does anyone know how accurate Savage rimfire's are?  The one I'm looking at is www.savagearms.com/markiig.htm.

Anyone know what size groups it will shoot?

and how about Marlin .22 bolt actions? Are they more accurate than Savage?

You might find some info at www.rimfirecentral.com/.

I've never spent any time there, but I did notice they have a Savage forum & a Marlin/H&R/NEF forum.

Short of spending over your $200 limit I seriously think the most accurate you'll find is one of the Romy m1969 trainer rifles & a scope.

I ended up getting an old Remington 581.  It's real fun to shoot, and suits me accuracy wise.  It came with peep sights, so I have something to tinker with since I'm inexperienced with peep sights.  I can't wait to try it out on some blackbirds, and to do more plinking with it.

I have Marlin 60 .22 LR and I love it.  Granted, it was my first gun but I have so much fun shooting it.  It's used but looks brand new...I think it was about $200 but it was worth it.

Just had to post, I have my first rifle still, a Remington model 510, Targetmaster.  It is a single shot bolt action.  We used to shoot match heads when I was a kid.  Today I can't see enough to use iron sights like I used to but this rifle will still place 3 shots on top of each other dead center of the bulls eye at 50 yds.  I've had many others over the years (about 52 yrs since my dad bought this rifle for $3.00 for me) but none, regardless of price will shoot like this one.  Maybe itis because I just love it so much.  The 10-22 is not acccurate,  I thought about spending money on a barrel/stock combo for the 10-22 but I think I'll finally have this old single bolt Targetmaster drilled and taped for a scope..............
