I have a M14 and am trying to figure out what chest rig to buy. The over all goal is to be able to hold 20 M14 mags. 8 on my person and 12 in the 3 day pack. I have been lifting weights.

The HSG is 200 bucks. While the DBT is 99 dollars.

No one really makes a decidicated 308 chest rig.

Any advice. Please note I have 2 20mm IV plates on my chest in my BP vest. The vest doesn't have mole. Should I stick to a belt mounted mag pouch instead.

No offense but *twenty* M14 mags and a pair of level 4 plates?  What small South American country are you planning on invading?

I'm looking real hard at the DBT rig for my AK. I can't really see spending more than a $100 or so on a chest rig.

The Warlord's gonna be a bit more comfy over the shoulders and upper back.

assault wheelbarrow?

the DBT AK rig is a NO GO for the FAL / M14/M1A series magazines

custom build would be the best route, but it is also the highest initial cost which may make the cheeper'ndert crowd a bit reticent.

Does he carry a shotgun as a sidearm because he is tough? Maybe he assaults enemy camps from 400 yards away.

or you could look at any of the eagle/skd stuff.

jesus. you know what. i'm fixing to write up another sticky thread. it's going to list all the chest rigs available, with links and pricing. Actually I did that two years ago and no one stickied it. but this time i'll really push it, cause this question has been asked like 30 times in the last month.

I liked the Warlord Bravo V4.  The extra pals channels on the sides allow you to mount a good sized utility pouch or double smoke pouches.  I understand that Gene has in the past, made custom molle panels to go inside the Warlord's admin pouch.

My only grumble with the Warlord was the shoulder straps.  They kept getting twisted and constantly dug into my neck.  I think a one piece design like the TT X-Harness or the Esstac Boar padded harness would work better.

Gene's (HSGI) pouches will work with whatever mags your using. There called "universal mag pouch", check them out on his site.

i just got mine put together.  HSGI warlord V4B, BDS tactical .308 pouches, TT pistol pouches, and BDS saw pouches.  I know everyone hates BDS, but nobody had what i wanted.  i thought about the PPM pouches, but wanted to be able to remove the pistol mag pouches.  with the BDS pouches i can fit 2 .308 mags, 3 20rd .223 mags, or 3 30rd .223 mags if the flaps are adjusted.  i got hooked up on the HSGI on the EE.

I have an HSGI and can run 3, 30 rnd 5.56 or 2, M14 mags per pouch. The HSGI is very well made.

Someone mentioned comfort - don't worry about comfort if you are using it in conjunction with plates as that is what it is riding on and you will never be effected by the fit of rig. Things to look for - durability, 2x or even 4x stitching, redundancy. If I could make one change to the HSGI - get rid of the padded straps. Pads are great unless you are running plates in a carrier, at that point - pads are just one more obstical to a good cheek weld.

FYI by the time you get your plates, L3 soft BA and then that HSGI with 8 mags of 7.62 your probably 40+ lbs.

Keep lifting (and running)

they have some now in the new section on the HSGI website, double layered for $15.  padded straps are a pia with a pack as well.
