I use a Sailrite sewing machine with #69 nylon thread. both the straps can be built with a heavy duty 'home machine', use #47 nylon upholstery thread with a #18 or #20 needles and go slow.
I came up with these MOLLE attachment solutions( and they aren't the only ones I've got...) not to make an industry out of making them or compete with MALICE clips, but to offer an alternative to the MOLLE patent regulating the use of the "natick" snap attachment.
The catch 22 is that it costs me tooo much to buy "lift the dot" snaps in small quantity to be able to sell the 'stanray snaps' cheaper than a MALICE clip. I need to bu snaps by the thousands to get the price down to where I can make a buck on those.
I build custom gear but the internet isn't my main 'market', what I do best I do face to face. I try to present myself as more of a "tailor" than gear whore stitch bitch riding the latest gucci gear wave.
My business is designing/building custom furniture and cabinetry, and occasionally fine trim carpentry (tho I don't think my profile -two bum knees- will let me do much more of that). I've been building alot of gear and following the trends the last couple years while recovering from a couple of knee surgeries, stitching pays for my bad habits while I am recovering but I will get back to my real job and some real money as soon as I can...which was supposed to be this fall. I don't want to start a cottage industry then drop it, so I persue custom jobs that interest me,,,whether it's the application, person, or material/medium. Building straps is not my dream job, sorry. I try to limit the work that I do to active duty personel, if you are AD I will hook you up. I try my best to share what I know, I posted some DIY gear tips at AssaultWeb gear forum, and atgeardo.com, and currently post at LF RYO forum. You can backtrack my pics to www.xanga.com/akabulletcatchR to see some of my old jobs, about the only thing I still produce regularly is my suspenders.
Hooligan, I live an hour west of Madison, FWIW I am also the WI hometown moderator. Stop on by and say hello, if we get a chance to meet me we can talk gear. I host training shoots about every month and am the host of the Driftless Rifle Club and Defensive Edge Training and Consulting classes, where we talk about training more than gear, but when we do talk gear you will LEARN something.
