[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Is their a particular brand name of BDUs that I should look for?

I am looking to get some plain OD BDUs. I see that there are several manufacterers out there; is their one that I should be looking for or avoiding? Also, if anyone has a favorite site that they have ordered BDUs from, let me know! (I don't want to pay the bend-over priced at my local surplus store.)

Propper's a good company for the general civilian market. I don't know much about the other makers (i.e. Tru-Spec).

I know of:

The only US maker I know of that civies can get (if you pay $200 or more) is by Camo Distributing, which is in Alabama. I haven't purchased any of their uniforms since I don't have a need for $200 worth of BDUs, and couldn't find anyone to do a group buy with. I also like my shirts to be configured with pockets on the sleeves, and they don't do this, unless you buy a LOT of them.

The following are made overseas, but sometimes with US materials:

1. Propper (most of mine say Made in Honduras or Dominican Republic of US materials)
2. Tru-Spec/Atlantco (Made in Korea)
3. Rothco (Chicom made)

4. Frank Bee (claims to be a US DoD contractor, but shipped me Rothcos and charged me for the US made prices) When I called them on it, they said they didn't have US made tan and OD BDUs in XL Long sizes. They may actually have a good US made product, but I never saw it. I got my money back.

Propper is quality, and the lowest price I've found them is at gun shows. There are so many sellers, you'll be able to haggle and get a good deal (Especially on a Sunday). Avoid ordering online from the big-name catalog companies (QM, Galls, etc.) or you'll pay too much.

Propper is pretty decent.

Propper its the best brand. Im a big guy....size 46 and this its the most durable and comfortable brand. Not to mention the price are affordable. I buy my bdu at a local army surplus and for a 2xl pants i can got from $30.00 to $38.00 depending on the camo pattern.

I wear bdu since i was 13 and I give this brand two huge thumbs up on price quality and comfort. hope

For work we purchase thousands of dollars in bdu's from camo distributing and they hold up on par to the BDU's I was issued in the military. If you can set your self up a group buy through them I would take them over all of the rest. I own lots of propers and the camo distributing are on par or better.

HAve both and have to agree, the true spec stuff I have faded pretty freaking fast, the proppers which I wear way more often and get washed way more often still have not faded anything close to what the tru spec has.

I just bought a set of Propper BDU's and they're very nice. I paid more at a local surplus store than what you can order them for online, but I had to try them on first.

I have both Proper and Tru-Spec and my observations are as follows:

Proper seems to have better QC in their sewing department. But they use lighter weight rip stop materials. Their pocket material is particularly weak I was repairing them with in 3 months or purchasing.

Tru-Spec seems to use a heavier rip stop material and uses the same material for their pockets. They however missed securing a corner of a pocket which causer the material to unravel a bit. Fortunately the unraveling can unravel no farther because of a redundant row of stitching.

That said it’s Tru-spec for me.

i forgot to mention this before> I bought some bdus from Brigadequartermaster made from "combat cloth" (uh sure) anyway the stuff held up very well to washing. It is a heavier, twill like fabric. It lasted much better than the tru spec bdus, some of which start to look kind of tatty fairly quickly.

Oh there's a thread in team with some links to some other places that sell bdus, it was posted around the time this one was. I am not sure whether search works in team.
