I am going to buy binoculars.
Spend around $200
something medium sized (not compact)
8x or 10x
They would be used for turkey/deer spotting and general use.
I am in a plains state.  Read that as variable weather during hunting season.
Can you recommend a brand and model?
I have been looking locally, but can you recommend an on line retailer?

Try Cabelas. You really should look at spending a little bit more for some quality roof prisms. However, the Nikon roof prisms are in your price range and are pretty decent.

Spending wise let's say

$300 (+/- $100)

Glockguy 40, the Steiner Predator sound good.  Personal experience?

Sperling:

Steiner Predator 8x30mm (list $229 or so)
Steiner Military Marine 8x30mm (list $199 or so)

Both are comparable, waterproof and 10yr warranty.  The Predator model is supposed to pick out browns and reds better and is marketed to hunters.  The Predator also has shaped eyecups to prevent any light from coming in the sides.

Try SWFA (riflescopes.com) for a pair.

No experience... still saving to buy the ones I just suggested for you.... all my extra $$$ is sucked up by my current build right now. As soon as more disposible income rolls in, I will be buying them; steiner makes excellent quality products and they sure are sweet looking... good enough for me.

I have both Steiner Safari 12X ($210 on Ebay), and Military 9X ($200 on various outlet)

Unless you are using it as a spotting scope, I found 12X steiner to be too much magnification and it gave me an headache to look through them. 8~9X magnification was faster to focus, and gives you better field of view. Also 9X is much more compact than 12X steiner.
