I'm on the hunt for reasonably priced 00 buckshot and slugs.  I like to spend trigger time behind my shotgun whenever possible, but the cost of 00 buck and slugs makes it tough sometimes.  I don't have steel to shoot at, and I can't shoot birdshot at the paper target hangers at my gun club.

I found this Fiocchi 00 buckshot for $128.95/250 rounds which works out to $0.52/round.

I found these Rio royal star slugs for $64.95/100 rounds which works out to $0.65/round.

Anyone know of any 00 buck or slugs for a better price per round than those two options?

Alternatively, any creative ideas for something portable to take to the range to shoot at with birdshot?

Don't know about Rio, but Fiocchi used to be good ammo.

CTD has Federal Power-Shok 00 for $3.16 per 5 rd box(62¢ per rd) and PMC One Shot Hi Velocity slugs for $3.22 per 5 rd box (64¢ per rd)

Sgammo.com is my go to for cheap buck and slugs.  They carry the Rio buck for <100$ per 250, and have good prices on slugs as well.

They are a site sponsor as well.  Good people.

I've had no problems with Wolf 00B for blasting, except that their buckshot is a bit longer than standard 2.75 loads, so I'm down one in capacity...

Rio buck is decent stuff. Not exactly flite control but much better than wolf.

I got some Centurion slugs from SG ammo that I like for the money.  Not low recoil but could hit a 1/2 size metric IPSC target at 50 yds on demand.  Can't seem to find them on the site anymore though.

I have bought some of that stuff also, pretty reliable, but I think they are just sold out. They are selling Centurion 00buck pretty cheap, but for slugs they are selling .65 ball for 80 bucks a case.

Royal is not bad for training and playing. Light on recoil as well.

I got some RIO 12 gauge low recoil 00 buck from SGammo . They are out of it now. But if you can find some it worked great in my Benelli SuperNova tactical.

I saw their price on it and was ready to order but then I saw it's out of stock.

I have a Nova Tactical, so that's good to know that you got good results in your SuperNova.

I love Fiocchi OO buck, no other "cheap" buck shot is nickel plated with a plastic wad and I can get it at a local GS for $7 per 15, hell some "quality" buck doesn't even come with a plastic wad (cough, cough, Winchester) and certainly no nickel plated buck.

The low recoil version is easy to control and patterns well from my Mossberg 500 breacher/cruiser. It hurts less than most #8 trap loads.

Yes it runs great but the pattern opens up pretty quick after 15yds

I stock on the Remington 15 round packs from Walmart.  They run 8 to 9 bucks so 90 bucks I have 150 rounds.  I have also had really good luck with S&B 00 buck.  Wolf buck shot is ok for blasting but it seems there is always one pellet going astray.

I think the local hood-mart sells winchester 15 round packs of 2 3/4" OO buck for $10 or just under it. It's unplated, for whatever that is worth (kind of new to this shotgun scene)

Wal-Mart 15 round value packs of either Win or Rem. I haven't price it lately, but I think it beats your price.

Be aware that the 15 pack Winchester loads use a fiber wad, the 15 pack Remington loads at least have a plastic shot wad.

Damn it... of course I pick up another box of the winchester before reading that I'm assuming the plastic wad keeps a tighter group for a short period? Or is it more a matter of longevity of the round?

Oh yeah, I like the 944. I've got a chipped 944 turbo s sitting at the parents, best porsche for the money and then some.

ETA, I like 928's too just in case yours is one of those

Holy wrong thread Batman!

Keep an eye out for sales on Wolf shotgun ammo , The stuff I've stockpiled was actually made in Spain or Germany, not Vodka soaked Russians.

Plastic wads do generally pattern better (they both cushion the pellets and prevent the pellets from scrubbing the barrel), fiber wads aren't necessarily bad, just different.

I wish I still had my 951 on the road, I totaled it in the rain in early 2010. I like 928s too but holy electrical gremlins batman, sorry, back on topic.

Lots of good responses, but I want to ask... why not just put clays on your clubs berm and shoot them with bird shot? (This is what I mostly do.)

Either there is something I am overlooking or I just gave you a great idea

Make some "Bubba Slugs" Thats what I call them!

Cut the crimp off of birdshot, pour all the lead bbs out. Melt wax and put the bbs in, and using a spoon fill the shells back up with bbs, dont overfill. Then put a thin layer of melted way ontop.

The ones I just made seemed to work well in my pardner pump that I get for $150 on black friday.

Aside from that Dick's Sporting Goods has 15rd winchester 1oz slugs for $12. Walmart has the best deal on remington 1oz slugs.

I picked up a coule of boxes of the xm12700ac from sgammo, shoots good out of my 870 and seems to keep a decent pattern.  It also comes in a ammo can. 94 bucks for 175 rounds.

I can't find a single box of OO buck at my Walmart. They have the 410 ammo for the Judge, 3" and 3-1/2" magnum, trap loads, etc. But not a single normal round of buckshot to be found on the shelf. Couldn't even find the tag for the normal 5 round packs.

My Wal-Mart has 15 round packs of Remington 00 Buck for $11.97... what's silly is they just take 3 of the 5 round boxes and pack them inside another box Seems to pattern decent out of my 870 but my HD load is #4 Buckshot with some slugs and 00 on the side.

The only stuff I have seen in the walmarts by me are the Winchester super X & the Remington magnum express loads, & these are way to hard for me to shoot. Recoil from my 590 is uncontrollable for me & bruised me.

Check with CTD and Ammotogo for prices if you don't have a selection of Wal-Marts to choose from.

While I like AmmoToGo, they are in DFW. That means I get to pay shipping and sales tax. The plus side is it only takes 1-2 days for my order to arrive. So I generally only use them for ordering my carry ammo (which they dont have any of at the moment).

As of now, I am either going to order up some Federal in the ammo cans, or the RIO from AIM or sgammo. I will have to go check the checkout prices and see where I can get the best deal.

I can buy boxes of 12ga 00 Flight Control for 2.99 locally so I usually buy a 50rd sleeve every time I go in there and that covers me for buckshot. For slugs I just buy the 15rd value packs of Remington at walmart

Might wanna check my recent thread out. I just came upon an old "lost art" if you will, which seems to work with great success thus far to provide an easy solution to not breaking the bank to practice with slugs. However not all are open to the idea and a few are scared it could cause some sort of possible issues. My disclaimer is, I don't say you HAVE to do this. I'm just offering the information up for those who may be interested in the idea. Many people have done this shell conversion with great success and have had no issues what so ever including myself.

I also use the Walmart Remington 15rd packs.
They don't pattern as well in my Maverick 500 as I'd like, but for the price they're hard to beat.
