just curious, what is the function of the two notches? to hold the spring in place?

Similar to the notches on the retainer plug (on 870 express models and similar). |

It also makes it a pain in the arse when you try to install an extension. I finally got mine to work with it

I am not familiar with the platform this is used in, however, if I were to make a guess, it would be to allow water/sludge/other crap a place to go to keep the weapon cycling after falling in muck or whatnot.
If it serves a purpose like allowing something to be passed over in the tube by the plug, that of course gets the nod, I am just speaking from a general design standpoint. |
