hey i went to sight in my shotgun today but didnt finish as I ran out of ammo
what range do you sight in slugs at
1 oz ranger slugs out of my 870 shotgun
i started at 25 yards and moved it out
25 yards got me on paper and put 3 rounds into one hole about 2 inches
then out to 50 it was all over the place
and that was off the bench
then i ran out of ammo
i left off about 2-3 inches high and 1-2 inches right
so if you need you ears clipped off i just have to aim between your eyes and that was two rounds on top of each other...i couldnt see that i did that until i walked out to the target

I sight mine in at 25 yds. with slugs. Then I check the buckshot pattern at 15, 20 and 25 yds.
to see where it hits. Works pretty good for me. Both of my SG's are cyl. bore BTW.

ok but arent slugs good out to 100 yards?
I figure 50 since its in the middle
and 25 will be low and 100 will be low for a 50 yard zero
or am i wrong?
as for buckshot well thats tough to sight in
my barrel is cylinder bore also

Make sure you try different brands of slug, since your shotgun will probably have a "preference" for a particular load.

Yes, slugs are good out to 100 yds or so, but I shoot mainly 00 buck and #4 bird shot in mine.
That's why I sight it in at 25yds. If I need to use a slug I can hit out to 50 yds or so easily.
If I ever decide to use it on deer I would change the zero to 75 yds.

maybe i should mention i have an 18" cylinder bore barrel
this is definitley not a hunting gun
more or less a defense/offensive shotgun
all the traits of an AR15 in a 12 gauge form

I made a magazine plug out of a wooden dowel for my Mossberg M590.
In a matter of seconds it becomes a hunting gun.

Mine is zeroed at 25 yards since I do not expect to use it beyond that.   For longer distances I use the rifle.
