Is the parkerized finish on a police model "black" like the matte black finish on the express HD model.
I've seen pics of certain shotguns that look like they have a grayish finish to them.

I am intrested in  a model #4449 870P, and am wanting the "black finish.

Any info?

Thanks

Remington's Law Enforcement web site says their parkerized finish is 60% more durable than standard bluing.

The Remington parkerized finish is a dark gray in color, and is somewhat more rough in texture than most parkerizing.

The Remington LE web site advises that they spray the Police guns inside and out with hot cosmoline as a shipping and storage preservative.

They recommend stripping the gun, including the magazine tube, and spraying it dripping wet inside and out with something like Rem-Oil or CLP Breakfree.
Allow to soak for 20 minutes, wipe off the excess and reassemble.

This dissolves the cosmoline and flushes it away, and the Rem-Oil "soaks" into the rough finish and builds up a rust proof layer of Teflon lube.

For full details on the finish and removing the cosmoline, see the LE web site:
