Ok, I know the law on the 18" minimum barrel length, so lets not flood this thread with a bunch of legal knowledge muscule flexing.  I am just wondering why you can buy short barrels (barrel only) for a AR from any AR manufacturer's site, but you can't find any 14" Barrel Only sales for shotguns.

There ARE AR pistols, and changing out an AR barrel is beyond the abilities and knowledge of most people.

There are NO shotgun pistols, and any doofes can slip an 870 barrel in place.

That all makes sense, but the fact remains that a 14" shotgun barrel isnt illegal to buy or own by the average joe, regardless of how easily it slips into place.

14in. barrels are available from several places for 870's including from CDNN, but most will require a copy of a Class 3 license or some other paperwork to sell to you. The shotgun's barrel is a "drop-in" install while the rifle's is not.

I would be worried to have a 14" barrel in my safe along side a non NFA 870.

Although I believe that 14" seems to be the best length for close in defense work it is not worth the trip to the Federal Pen for 4 inches. If the overall length of the shotgun is a major concern then a SXS or O/U might be the best bet for you. Here in New York State we have no choice, NO NFA guns. MIKE.
