from my Winchester 1300 Defender?  Is it even possible?  I haven't really tried anything yet but would like to know before I do anything.  Thanks.

you unscrew the cap on it after you unload it...btw you can download a PDF owners manual at Winchester's website

he means the tube, not the spring cap thingy.
