my guess -- is a gun that old would be a No, a more modern gun made within 20 years ago would prolly be ok. even some new guns might not be rated for steel shot.
BUT -- the only way to be sure is to call browning. |

Remington recommends that steel shot not be used in a fixed choke barrel tighter than modified and steel shot not larger than #2. A steel shot rated replacement barrel can be ordered from Cabelas. Might be cheaper to buy a brand new Mossberg from Wal-Mart. MIKE.

I went to the Browning website they say it is safe to shoot steel in the old barrels, the only risk is bulging the end of the bbl about 1.5' form the end, will make a hump about .005 all the way around the end. Besides the cosmetics being ruined it is safe to shoot. Going to get another barrel for duck hunting. Thanks
