I used to have a Ruger MK 2 Government mod way back and loved it.I would like to get another 22LR semi auto but need input on what you guys have been happy with.
Use would be strictly punching holes in paper targets out to 25 or 50 yrads.Might be interested in a scope on it too. Also good online dealers i could have it shipped to a local FFL.

Find a used Mk II or get a new Mk III

Ruger pretty much makes the .22 semi that all others are judged by.

Buckmark

But like any firearm, handle it, shoot it, then make the decision for yourself.

Used Mk II.  The Mk III is the "lawyered up" version of the Mark II.

loaded chamber indicator added
key lock added
magazine safety
I think last shot hold open was added, but that might have been on the MkII as well.

nothing really there that is affecting accuracy or reliability

personally i'd reccomend that you figure out what features you need first.  You want to hit targets at 50yrds?

I'd start thinking about barrel length and weight.

Both the Ruger and Browning can be had with pretty long barrels.  Browning even has a distinct "sillohette" (sp?) model.

The buckmarks tend to be lighter than the comparable ruger.

A 6" S&W 41 could do it, but I don't think they get any longer than 6".  Both the browning and rugers go out to at least 10"

Sounds like you know what sights you need.

Ruger 22/45 1st, MKII or III, if no deals on a Ruger, try a Buckmark.

This

S&W Model 41, the 5" barrelled guns seem more popular than 7" barrelled guns now, newer versions can be easily adapted for optics.

Go here for sources and shipping to your dealer.

Those come with a rail in the box.  Easy peezy to mount it (2 screws, blue loctite) and then mount just about any rail-able optic.

Sorry –– only the Target models.  My new Mk III 'Standard" is not drilled and tapped.

+1 mine is a standard MKIII and it isn't drilled and tapped for scope mount.

Sorry, I miss spoke.  If it has a bull barrel, its drilled and tapped and comes with a rail.

Very nice, I like those too but the grip angle feels weird to me.  Too much angle, the 22/45 feels better to me.  YMMV

The Ruger is still the king.  Although I also really love my S&W 22A bull barrel.  But the Ruger can't really be beat.

Nice!  I have the exact same model minus the cool scope.

I love my MKIII.  It's one of the most fun guns I own.
