I am looking to buy one of those mainspring housing/magwell combos for my Kimber SIS 5" and am wondering which ones anyone might have experience with. Also, if you have one of these and can describe the finish I would appreciate it. Here are the three I am considering:

- Ed Brown
- Kimber
- Nighthawk
- Wilson

I was originally wanting to get the Ed Brown "Maxi-well" but one person on Midwayusa.com said that the screw that holds the magwell to the MSH would come loose with recoil. I like the design though, if you don't want the magwell you can take it off without even having to take the MSH off. But if that screw can come loose I don't want to mess with it. Although that was probably some isolated incident as I can't see Ed Brown would releasing a faulty product.

The Kimber looks nice and maybe I should buy it because I am going to put in on a Kimber. Also, I would like to know if the Kimber is one piece or not. I think I would rather that it just be one piece.

The Nighthawk is a two piece like the Ed Brown but instead of a screw at the base of the MSH holding the magwell on it uses the same pin that hold the MSH to the frame. I just wonder if that would cause it to wobble/tilt at all.

And the Wilson looks nice as well.

I have the Ed Brown with the chainlink checkering. I put a drop of blue loctite on the screw when I installed it and have not had a problem.

I have the S&A one piece, it works very well. Very easy installation.

Both the Ed Brown versions and S&A's are great products. I'd think they go with with your weapon in question.

Thanks for your input guys, I just ordered the S&A off of eBay for $69.99 shipped which was $10 less than anywhere else plus free shipping, strange.

My father's got the Kimber magwell on his Custom 2.  Hasn't given him any problems.

I found I still needed to file the S&A magwell to get it to fit better on the gun and open the magwell to match the factory supplied magwell.
