So I graduated from OSUT last week and I am rewarding myself by getting my 1911 customized. Part of that process will be having hard chromed. Now I am looking for a good place to do it. I know Tripp research used to be one of the best places to go but they dont do it anymore. Has anybody ever used Elite Custom Guns in NC? Any other suggestions. Someone on another forum suggested EGW.

I like using Magna Port, in Mt. Clemens Mich. I have been a customer there for two decades. They (Steve Kelly) are great folks and they make sure they do exactly what the customer wants. Here is my colt coated in 1998, still looks like the day it came out of the shop. They offer a good selection of finishes :

I've used METALIFE and TRIPP.

happy with both, Liked TRIPP better, it's a bit brighter.

Make sure you are finished customizing your 1911 before you send it off.

Get all the de-horning, checkering, etc., done first.

Here's the top gun platers. Many offer other finishes.
Most offer variations in how the final finish will look, ranging from the original matte pearl-gray, to a stainless steel look, to a full mirror bright look.
A few will even plate inside bores and chambers.

Prices vary according to the options and the finisher.

The ones with the best reputation are APW/Cogan and Ford's but all do top work.

I've used Elite Custom Guns and was very satisfied. I'm planning on sending two more to them shortly.
Here are a couple of pics of my Delta Elite that they did for me. Brushed hard chrome slide and small parts on duracoat frame.

A vote for Metaloy. I have had two 1911's refinished by them, one of them going on over twenty years still looks awesome.
