Would I be able to get away with just swapping out my hammer without any smithing?

No problems with the other hammer? I take it yer swapping out to a bobbed hammer? If the other worked fine I wouldn't think you would have any problems. Just make sure you do the function test so you don't have any unexpected problems.
I remember years ago at the local funshow there used to be a guy that had 5gal buckets of parts. You could start at one end of his table and assemble a working 1911 when you got to the other end..

Nothing functionally wrong with the one I have now. Its a Kimber hammer and it has an annoying bump on it from the MIM process that bothers me. If it were to fail, it would fail there, so i just want to be proactive and swap it out.
