My neighbor has a Colt 1911 serial number 2095xx it is below the 209586 number. It has about 70% of the finish left. It is in good shape. Can anyone give be a ball park value on this pistol? Thanks

I'm confused since 209xxx is greater than 205xxx, but you state that it's lower

Unless it's a Singer Mfg., any older 1911 that is 70% finish should clock in at $450 at the low to $600 at the high.  If it has any historical significance that might change things.

To Colt affecianados, this may seem low, but these are real world prices in today's current market.

Is this a US property 1911 or a commercial one? I'm going to guess and say it's a US property one which would date it around 1918. It would probably be the "Black Army" finish which did not last very well and it's unusual to find one with lots of finish.

It would all depend on the correctness of the parts but it's worth FAR more then $450.00. If correct it would be more around $1500.00 or so on up.

There you have it.  I don't give a hoot about an Old Old Colt as I'm not a collector.  The gun to the average Joe is worth 500-600 depending on condition.

For a collector the gun could be worth more than $1500.  Getting someone to pay it is a different story.  

If you are going to sell it, I'd suggesst that you take ot toa local knowledgable gunsmith for an exaluation.  You might find out sore exacting info that you get from here with a Serial number and description.

I think Xanadu must have read "what's this colt worth TO YOU" instead of the actual title, as his estimate is way off base for the real world. He does have a point about the market, however given the economy.

That is a good looking old gun for sure.

It's in nice shape but I'm willing to bet its a refinish. Some of the deeper dings and pitting should have more finish loss. Pony at the rear of the slide is barely visible, indicative of buffing work to prep for a refinish. Grips aren't right but none of the other signs of it being a rework for WWII. Slide rollmarks and serial # seem right. There's alot right about it from what can be acertained from the pics but more pics of the gun disassembled would tell alot more. There should be a matching serial on the frame and proof marks that provide more info.

I see dealers asking $800 - $1200up. The last 2 I bought from acquaintances at their asking price were $175 and $350. Last one I bought on Gunsamerica, a little better refinish, was $700.

You also might want to check the tacked thread on 1911s only.

Its refinished from the look of it so around here it might sit in a shop for 12-1400, If it happened to be the original finish 3500 tops.

Honestly though, pieces like that are sitting right now.
