have a chance to pick up one of these for $500. Seems like a no brainer?  Is there somethibng I dont know about these?  Any input will be appreciated.

If thats the lightweight bitone I'm thinking of then yes, those, like most anything else springfield makes is good and a steal for $500.  One of our officers had one for several years and it ran like a champ.  A springer 1911 for $500 is pretty much a steal no matter what.
