Has anyone seen this before or have one. I saw it at a show yesterday and thought about picking it up.

It's for the Mexican trade. 38 Supers are popular there due to restrictions on "military" ammo pistols.

Colt "DIA DE LOS MUERTOS" The Day Of The Dead special edition Talo Exclusive (02991DOD) 38 super, full size governent, 5" barrel, high polished blue, slide has been silver etched with traditional Mexican folk art designs and symbols along with the Rampant Colt, silver plated barrel bushing and hammer, polished barrel, pearlite grips with Colt medallions and silver hex screws, includes 2 magazines, Colt Custom Shop box, and insert, circa 2008 mfg

Replace them grips and I would actually like it.

You'll make a fine Mexican pimp with that stuffed in your pants.

I actually like it, but would never buy one.

While clearly well executed, it's so NOT my taste. I'd pass myself.

Very cool!

I'd feel differently about it if they hadn't just plopped the decorated slide onto a plain matte frame.

Even if they had just polished the frame it would look a thousand percent better.

I'd pick one up if it were cheap enough, but no way I'd pay a premium for it.  As for collectibility, God alone knows.

+1

I have learned the hard way that these commemoratives do not go up in value and are hard to sell. But they do make excellent shooters!

I'd shoot it and then keep it as a wall hanger. I really like the design on the slide. First time I've ever seen a Mexican 1911 that caught my attention.

When discussing Mexican pimps it must be in Spanish.

Chulo is Pimp in Spanish?  (is it pronounced Shoo-lo?)

ch / che / nacho

choo-lo

Here's one for you.  Been awhile since I spoke any spanish but I think this is correct.

¡Ésa es la pistola del chulo de la guerra!

Which should be, "That's the pistol of the War Pimp!"

If they put a Zombie on the slide instead of a skeleton and called it Dawn of the Dead, they wouldn't be able to produce enough to keep up with the ARFCOM demand.

while i think its a nice looking gun, guns are meant to be shot not sit on a wall or in a case and look pretty.

Its just the bushing that sends it over the top.I love the mentality of this version. Not my idea of a replacement for my matte series 80 commander, but it is really cool in my view. Spices things up a bit dont it?

One up for sale on GB.  You can see the frame is polished on this gun, though it still doesn't seem to match the slide.

the starting price on that was more than I saw it at the show for. somone must have really wanted it. I like it, but wouldn't have paid that for it.
