Hello,
This is my husband's account, I want to get him a 1911 pistol but have no idea where to start. I gather from my reading on here that Kimber or Springfield Armory is probably my best choice. My budget is about $600.00. Your help would be awesome!

For that price probably a MilSpec Springfield or stretch a little and get a Loaded Springfield.

Are you shopping locally or looking online for one?

Don't know much about Kimbers but Springfields are pretty hard to beat.  This site
SGC will show you what's available and the approximate $$ involved. Just click "on-line shopping" and "handguns" and "springfield".  The Springfield G.I., and Mil-Spec are both popular and fit your budget, except that shipping and FFL fees would add as much as $100 to the cost, but if you buy on-line their wouldn't be any sales taxes.

The prices at this site are probably not the best, but it shows pretty nicely what's available. You might be able to beat the prices by $50 with some careful shopping, but availability will be an issue.  These things are hard to find . These guys have Kimber too, so you can comparison shop. Good luck.

He might like a Springfield Armory GI model, if he was in the Military, I know I would.

They are a bit less so you could buy a  holster and other goodies like spare mags and ammo. with the leftover money.,

Can't go wrong with a Springfield GI, parked, for your budget.  You'll even have some money left over for mags and ammo!

I do not know what these people are smoking to suggest a Springfield or Kimber for the budget you informed us that you are on.

I Just looked at a Taurus PT1911 that was really nice with all the features of a semi-custom gun for $560 brand new with warranty, etc. Quality and trigger felt really nice. Cant beat it for that price.

And you'll need that warranty, too.

Springfield Mil-Spec...or used Kimber Custom II or Springfield Loaded.

I think this fits the bill for within budget and a decent manufacturer.
I do not necessarily recommend Impact guns, but this model can be had for this price with many vendors. Good solid 1911 for the money.

I assume that he's not a lefty.  If so, that could cause issues.

If he's into games, check out the STI Spartan.  I'm very happy with mine.  I paid $625, shipped to my FFL.

My question is...why are you using your husbands account so he can figure it out?  Unless he already knows Plus another for a Springfield or used Kimber.

She said "about". An extra $100 isn't too much of a stretch, especially with all of the upgrades that would come with them compared to a milspec. And they could be had used for $600 or less as well.

The STI Spartan would also be an excellent choice.

games?

IDPA, USPSA, bowling pin, 3-gun, etc.

The STI Spartan was designed as a low-cost gamer/target gun.  It has a fiber optic front sight and fully adjustable Bo-mar style rear sight.  Both are conducive to pistol games rather than home defense or concealed carry.  The fiber optic sight sucks in low light but is awesome in sunlight.

nice BTW I have to agree with the Springfield idea or a used Kimber. reading the Taurus parts breakage stories has made me have a change of heart about them. As for Colt my Kimber ran rings around my Gold Cup so much so that the Gold Cup went away. Colt has failed to keep pace with the market.
