What are your favorite grips on a working/carry 1911?

My favorite to date are VZs aggressive Operators. Got them on my Warrior and Pro.

You?

I have the VZ Operators on my TRP and my Caspian Recon Rail.  I've got the 320's on one Norinco and the Gatorbacks on a Kimber.  They are a fantastic product!

Don't you know you can't have adjustable sights on a carry gun?

So I have been told...but I'm not good at doing what I'm told..

Nothing fancy but comfortable.  Pachmayr Gripper on my 70 Series.

I have Pachmeyers on my SA Loaded. I used some on a series 70 Colt when I was a cop in the '80s and they are comfortable. They wrap around eliminating the need for something on the front strap.
I shoot plate matches and the pachs have never let me down.
Are the grips like the VZs that much better? The Pachs work hot or cold, with sweaty or dry hands.

1911 grips shall be wood. Plastic and rubber is for glocks.

The plain-jane rubber grips on my Kimber Custom-II are my favorite.  Looking for another set to put on my Springer cause I'm not real fond of the wood grips.

I still like Coco Bolo in the double diamond pattern.  There are these other grips that look cool too, "MonkeyGrips" at www.davidsonknives.com.  I've been looking at the "Horned Lizard" style.

Double diamond wood or smooth grips. I like thin grips but never had them on a pistol. I don't see texturing on a 1911 grip as being very important, as I have hand cut 25 LPI checkering on my Colt and the next one is getting serrations. I grip front to back and don't hand onto the actual grip very much at all.

I like nice wood grips on my 1911s but as for working grips all mine wear Gunners. Also helps to be friends with the Strider guys

I like fully checkered cocobolo, since it offsets a good blue job very nicely.  I don't care for the look of double diamonds at all.  Lately the VZ gatorbacks have been growing on me:

What are your favorite grips on a working/carry 1911?

The ones you convinced me to get. The VZs.

I like alumagrips, but they don't fit my 1911.

good morning.

grips are a very subjective subject.  a lot depends on 'personal preference'.

that said, i have a 'few' 1911's.  also have checkered and smooth cocobolo, rosewood, mesquite, and walnut grips.  however, i like the plain rubber [about $10.00] ones for my carry gun.  they are, well, 'grippy' and i have yet to break one.

while some of them look nice, i don't care for alumagrips.  and i think a lot of the newer styles that i see are ugly.  i like aesthetic as well as functional guns.

however, i do lust after some stag and/or mammoth ivory grips.  also i have some horn [goat i think] grips that i am working on.

damn.  i guess i need some more 1911's.

have a good day.  i am going shooting in a few minutes.  it is a beautiful sunny cool day here.

peace.

I'm still using my tried but true 10 year old Kim Ahrends Cocobolo double diamond grip panels.  I'll probably be switching them to some type of micarta or g10 grips down the road.

My 1911s are not working guns nor do I carry them, but they are all on call for hd duty.

S70 repro: Yo-Bo "exotic wood"
Kimber Warrior: new Yo-Bo VZ double diamond (coming soon)
CQB 5": Wilson Combat Black Diamond Wood

Had a pair of Simonich Gunners on the Warrior but they were loose and instead of taking steps for a proper grip to screw / bushing fit I over tightened then unscrewed the bushing from frame then tried the pliers method to release grip screw from bushing then like an idiot tried to reinstall damaged bushing and crossed the frame threads.  Happens all the time according to Kuhnhausen's shop manual.

I purchased a set of Larry Davidson Warthog's for my new SA Pro. I could not be more pleased. They are a suberb grip. I'm also a big fan of Ahrends "Combat" checkered grips.

I have tried the Ergo XT (didn't like),Simonich Gunners(I liked them a lot after I sanded them down a little),and VZ Diamondbacks(Also very good). My new favorite grips are the Davidsons that arrived in the mail this morning. They are the Warthog/12 bar variant shown in his grip gallery.

I'm not a Marine or wannabe, but my buddy bought gunners and I liked them, so I just bought a set.

They really have something with those..  Very grippy.

I kind of wish they weren't so set in their opinion and sold them without the MSH pin cut though.
