[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Kimber Ultra Carry .40 or.45?

I have decided to get a Kimber Ultra Carry II for ccw. My other pistols are .40cal.
because they have less recoil than .45.My wife can also shoot as easily as her 9m.
My dealer say get .45 for carry and forget .40 for more stopping power. I am looking
for opinions, advice.

Anything other than .45 in a 1911 just don't seem right.

Have a Kimber UCII in .45 (of course!) and it is no monster for recoil. Don't sweat the "kick" as it is VERY controllable.
Have Kahr PM9, Glock G23 & G22 and Kimber UCII and I keep going back to the Kimber as my go to gun for ccw.

There's a lot to be said for commonality of your supply chain, and if .40 is working for you, I don't see a problem with it. I think "stopping power" is a myth. People die just as dead from .32 ACP as they do with .45 ACP or that 50 GI (Gastro Intestinal?). Shot placement is your friend.

If you shoot a .40 well, go for it! Me, I loves my .45.

Both me and Mjohn3006 each own one with the hogue rubber grips. I love mine. Mjohn likes his too

I am mostly looking for my wifes ablity to carry also.She is disabled and
con only shoot 20 rounds at the range with her Taurus 9.She likes my .40
but it was painful when she tried a friends .45

Be advised that Kimber recommends using only 230 grain ammo in the Ultra sized guns, for reliability. If you have a 230 gr defense load you feel good about, then it's not a problem.

That's interesting because the 40 to me has more recoil. I have several .45s but I will never own or shoot another 40 if I can help it.

I agree wth the .40 comment regarding recoil. I always say it feels more snappy and pulls me off target worse than a 9mm or even the 45acp. 9mm is a pussy cat in all but the smallest and lightest guns..even then it isn't painful in my experience. The 45 seems to have a slower recoil, pushing into my hand rather than snapping the muzzle up like I find the 40 does....

I am issued the 40 for work (G23/22) but would go back to my G21, or even my G17 (w/ +P+ 127 gr) in a heart beat if allowed...

I like my 1911's in .45 acp flavor. My stainless Ultra Carry is very comfortable to shoot - but I also shoot .44 Magnum loads in a 4" S&W without any great discomfort
