I always enjoy the pics of others new guns so here is a few of my new Colt and a couple of my other 1911s. Someone told me today that they had not owned a 1911 that did not need a break-in. He said his needed about 500-1000 rds to be 100%. What are your observations? Did your 1911s need a long breat-in? No break-in? Thanks B.S.

I have had Springers, Colts, a Norinco, but mostly Colts, and found that of all of them, the Colts tended to need more break-in rounds and range time.

Actually , after about 200 rounds of Hardball , my Springer GI was good to go.

Course I did do a "Fluff n Buff" after the first 100rds.

Damn fine taste in firearms! Some say 200, while others say 500. If no major problems happen within the first 100-200 rounds I'd say your good to go (just my 2-cents). BTW, how do like your Ed Brown, specifically the barrel? Thanks.

I'm not carrying any firearm untill its gone at least 300 rounds without a failure.

Never had any problems with Colt, but it took a few hundred down range with the Springer to get working properly. Some will be more finicky than others. By the way, nice trio.

Can't speak for any other 1911 but my Colt's have always been reliable out of the box.

Breaking them in is part of the fun. I wouldn't just break it in with ball ammo though. I would shoot at least 50 HP of your carry load to make sure it will chamber those properly. Plus another 200 ball. If it does that without a hitch you should feel very confident carrying it.

I have a S&W 1911 that never needed to be broken in.
Never had any malfunctions.
Still has not had any broken MIM parts.

About 7000 rounds through it so far.

I did replace the springs and it keeps running like father time.

Great looking Colt.

I have never had problems with Colt, or SA, but those damn tight Kimbers sure need a good break in, but they ALL run better with a good break in, plus it is fun.

I've never had to "break in" a Colt, buy it, clean it [some of the protective oil/grease can be very sticky] and shoot it. My Springfields on the other hand.........

took many hundred of rounds and still were "hitchy" in slide operation. That was after I put in a set of decent springs as the one would not even go back into battery between the to tight fit and the weak recoil spring.

Thanks for all the compliments. I don't have many rds through the Brown yet but see my other post about my last shoot for some pics of the groups. The fit and finish on it is amazing and the little bit I have shot it has been a real pleasure.
