1911 Newb wondering if the Kimber TLE II can use regular 1911 parts, mags, and accessories?

Yes. However there are several variations in parts that you will have to be aware of. Like the external extractor and internal safety, if so equipped. Everything else is Government Model.

What is "MIM"?  I've seen it referenced here a couple of times.

Metal Injection Molding

Many part failures in Kimber's due to this type of manufacturing process. Kimber thought it revolutionize the industry.

No.  I didn't even know what MIM meant.  Let alone where it started.

Sounds like an OLYMPIC arms technique.

When talking guns you must understand "Drop In" means drop in to your local gunsmith.

+1 I have $200.00 worth of Wilson non MIM partsfor my Warrior.  None of them "drop in" and all the smiths in my area are backed up.

I just replaced thess parts tonight on my Pro Carry II and they all dropped in with no adjustment neccessary.  (I'm new to 1911s so this was a learning experience for me.  Everything worked and didn't have any unacounted for left over parts!!)

Smith & Alexander Steel Mainspring Housing
Ed Brown Hardcore Slide Stop
Ed Brown Firing pin stop
Wilson Bullet Proof Extractor

On order are Novak Tritium Night Sights and Wilson Tactical Mag release. Then maybe a new non mim hammer and sear combo.  That should about do it for me.

How are Colt's on MIM parts?  I thought I read somewhere that they have less MIM parts than most out of the box 1911's.
