LOL...I meant as store stock, not for CCW (not like it's an option for me here in MD either)

Right now the two best deals (and not my humble opinion) in a 5" 1911 chambered in .45ACP are the Yost-Bonitz 1* Enhanced built on an SA GI for $1445 or a Wilson CQB for about $1700 or less if you shop around ($1950 + shipping from Wilson). My suggestion would be to get the 1* Enhanced and add a Kart barrel instead of the SA 2 piece (but that is more want than need). I KNOW that the 1* Enhanced with or without the SA factory barrel is the absolute best underpriced deal in a true quality 1911.

I'm confused. What would my Ed Brown be considered?  I called them and told them what I wanted.
They gave me a price on the basic 1911 and a price for the upgrades: checkering, ambi safety, sights, and so on.  Thanks for the insight.

BShep:
Your Ed Brown should be considered a darn fine example of a 1911!

Thanks guys. That makes sense. So a YB *1 would be full blown custom?

Not really. It's still a pre-defined package that you're allowed to make some minor changes to. A "full blown custom" would be a gun for which you specified every part, every little detail, and built from scratch to your own specs, either from bare frame and slide or using a "base gun".
