I basically like the mil spec springfield.  The only thing that's bad on it is the SIGHTS!  Those USGI sights were bad back in the day.  

The ultra shorty thing probably barely gets a 230 gr ball up to 500-600 fps.  It's too short.  I wouldn't use it for defense because the short barrel and porting ROB the cartridge of way too much velocity.  And the .45 ACP isn't long on velocity to start with.

I have a 1918 vintage Colt I still shoot now and then, for target shooting, yea they suck.  But as a pointing aid to a man size target, they work.  That and the natural pointing ability of the 1911.  In some ways, for a carry gun, I like the old sights. They don't snag.

On the short barrel issue, Gold Dot has some short barrel ammo out that should fix that.  I use them in my S&W 60.

Well, part of the problem is that you loose velocity with the comp. I used to have a Springfield PDP Defender - a govt sized 1911 with a comp. The rounds travelled slower than in a regular 1911. There used to be a range in the 1990s nearby that had steel targets to shoot. When I shot some of the larger ones with that comped gun, they would not always fall.

Don't let anyone tell you that Yost and Co. doesn't build a great 1911. IMHO the best deals going in a 1911 are the 1* Enhanced and 1* Elite. The only thing I might have done differently on my two 1* Elites was to have a Kart instead of the two piece SA G.I. but in truth that is more want than need.

They look great. Thats what I love about the 1911, every last one of them have a look and personality all to there own.
