Hobbs, you are the man,,,
switched safety with my kimber classic...worked like new on the Eclipse..
so guess Wilson is gonna get some money..not worth the shipping to return the gun to kimber and the weeks to turn it around..not a huge fan of ambi safety so will pick up a single..for 35.00..
thanks again..

Know that your new Wilson safety will have to be fitted.

Sounds like you got real lucky that the Safety from the classic works on the Eclipse.  However, do this test:

Empty the gun.  Be sure.

No magazine, don't need it.

Cock hammer.

Engage thumb safety.

Grip pistol in firing grip to disengage grip safety.

Press trigger very hard.

Release trigger.

Disengage thumb safety.

***If hammer falls, you have what Colt calls a "scant safety", which means that the lug on the safety is not fitted correctly and allows the sear to move, instead of locking it***

This will more than likely require a new safety be fitted.

If the hammer didn't fall, then you're good to go.

took the eclipse out today,,
ran 100 rds through it,,
1 fail to feed with the same return to battery issue..
pulled the round and it did the same thing in my gold cup so,,,bad round,,,
other 99 ran like a machine,,,
what i did.
1. added 16lb spring from wolf. from factory 14.5lb? i believe..
2. stoned the part of the safety that rides up from inside the frame to hit the plunger so it was level to frame when in safe position
3. changed out thumb safety from another 1911
bam,bam,bam, etc....
thanks to all for the input, sincerly appreciated..

now awaiting new thumb safety from wilson and good to go..

you've described the thumb safety issue exactly. I took one off another 1911 and it solve the problem..yes,, most wilsons must be fitted bu on occasions you get lucky and they drop in,..have had it happen, will hope so if not,,will need to find a smith in San Diego
thanks for your input..
