Ol reliables finish was getting a bit thin and blotchy in its ol age, This being my truck/field/beater and all

Been around the block a few times as my duty weapon also

Heres the before pic taken several years ago and posted here

I decided that she need a little remake, not much mind you just a facelift if you will

Stripped,, a little emory paper to get rid of some war scars, bead blast and re park

not bad for an ol beater

Looks good! What are the markings along the slide on the ejection port side? (photoshop out identifying markings?)

And +1, what are the slashes or x's on the slide? Photoshopped serial numbers out, or number of vietcong killed?

Not exactly, The xxxxxxxxxxx are there for a reason, and if I tol ya what was under there Id have to kill ya

lets just say the slide is one of the "contract" match slides for the govt. built on an essex frame. and leave it at that

I dunno.......

Don't get me wrong. She looks real nice now. But she ALSO looked real pretty before the facelift! After all....the only thing that looks like honest wear on a .45 is, well....honest wear!

While I agree that wood looks better on 1911s (and my current 1911 wears rosewood), I've used Pachmeyers on 1911's before and they worked well.

ANOTHER "less is more"

btw its Kings' Target, and makes a great combat sight

EDIT TO ADD Brownells sells an exact copy made by MGW for around 20 bux for both front and back sights

and heres a "more isnt necessarily less"

Any pics showing the sight picture of the King's target sight? It looks "Heinie-ish", but significantly bigger, but not so big as to be "in the way". I'm also thinking of a Yo-Bo retro sight. To the eye, how much bigger does the Yo-Bo's .140" notch compare to the Heinie (what I have on my Nighthawk) .125"? Is it that much easier to pick up?

Yeah,
My Nighthawk is about as "tricked" as I like 'em, and by NH and "semi-custom" standards, it's pretty tame. I was thinking of getting my Colt 70 modded, and I realized I like it pretty much "as is". I'll prolly get a SA GI WWII or Mil-spec over the holidays and have it very mildly modded (trigger/reliability job, LIGHT dehorn, new sights). I just love the "original" lines, and since I don't need a beavertail (I put 200 rounds through the Colt last week with no injuries...other than a sore hand the next day because I fired 400 rounds total

), I figure why get one?

I have gotten to the point that what you see here is the most of my external mods. I have a very good friend of mine dehorn the grip safety and chop the hammer back a few ( 4 ) notches and soften the frame tangs up just a bit. Internally I changed out the sear and the disconnector to non MIM components and I use a Cylinder and Slide Extractor and a Wollf 18.5 RS with a CP shock buff.....that's it.

I have actually decided to leave this gun in the "unfinished" state as a demonstration of how little you actually need to do to a 1911 to defang it.

Oops...forgot the Ed Brown grip screws ( my buddy MAKES me put those on.....and they do look good ) and the Robar G.I. rear site, it's just a bit beefier but gives a nice sight picture. I do need to put on a more hi - vis front sight.

i prefere the before look.patina i believe they call that rustic look.man you dont see funtional shooters like that every day.now it looks like every other 1911.thats not bad.[

I have had those grips on my Officers ACP since I picked it up 15 or 16 years ago. Nothing wrong with them at all.

I liked the well used look as well but that is okay, in another 10 years or so it will look that way again.

I am kind of the same way. I like the well worn but still functional look that comes from honest use rather than abuse.
