[ARCHIVED THREAD] - IMHO the current best buys in a 5" 1911

1. Under $1000: The Kimber 25th Anniversary Custom. This 1911 can be had for less than $800 if you check Gunbroker.com and Auctionarms.com If a railed 5" 1911 is needed my vote goes to the Kimber Warrior at around $1000.

2. Around $1500: The ADCO/RRA 1911 or the Yost-Bonitz 1* Enhanced built on a SA

3. Less than $2000: Yost-Bonitz 1* Elite built on a SA ($1895 + shipping). This has got to be the single most underpriced custom 1911 that is readily available.

ETA: At the suggestion of SGB that I include a 1911 that costs less than $500: SA Mil-Spec

For $1K, I think the STI Trojan is hard to beat:

For $1500, a used Wilson Combat CQB is a good value:

For $2K, Ed Brown makes a quality 1911:

As for the under $500 category, agreed, SA is the way to go.

How does a $1950 Wilson CQB rate? I do not see many of the $1500 variety.

PS. not being a smart a$$, honestly wondering how it rates.

Docgun, you might want to check your pricing on the Yo-Bo 1* Elite, they quote $2,295. You might hit that price point if you provide your own and get a deal on the base gun.

The $2,295 price is using a Colt that they supply. Using a SA that they supply the price is $1,895. Package price is $1,495, on a customer supplied pistol.

If you want to know what my honest opinion is, I would buy a new Wilson Combat CQB if I could not find a used one for around $1500. However, since people do sell used ones for around $1500, I bought one for about $1400 used. That is why I recommended buying a used one for that price.

I think the Ed Brown has a better finish than Wilson Combat, but I shoot more accurate with the Wilson Combat. Both are a good value at around $2K new. However, you don't see many used Ed Browns for under $1800, and for that price, you might as well buy a new one for a couple hundred more.

+1 on that. I love my stainless KC by Ed Brown. But I love just as much my CQB. I think I paid around $1900 for the CQB and $2400 for the KC. I will not ever be getting rid of either of them and love them both equally. I really couldn't choose one over the other.

Those are my only 1911s... but, really, who would need any others after you have those two?

You wouldn't NEED another, but you might WANT a little more variety. For example, carrying a scandium-framed 1911 for the weight advantage, or having an internal extractor Eclipse just for the novelty of it, or maybe having a 1911 with a rail.

I'd add Colt NRM series 80 as well.

Wilson's CQB was a decent deal before it came within speaking distance of two Grover Clevelands.

I would pick one up on the used market, they go for about $1500-1600 and aren't too bad of a deal if you can stand paint on your gun and forward-mounted cheese graters on the slide.

You are quoting the Master Dealer price for a new CQB.

Hmm, my dealer has them in the case for $1900 something. I figured Wilson had just jacked up their prices.

Both the Colt Series 70 and the Colt NRM are both fine guns. Every once in awhile a gun "slips through the cracks". At around $750 OTD the Kimber 25th Anniversary Custom is hard to beat. I have shot a few and have owned one and at their price point they are an excellent deal.

Check Gunbroker.com and Auctionarms.com The last time I checked the price range before shipping and FFL transfer fee was $710 - $730. I still believe that in this price range this particular 1911 is a "sleeper". When it came out the retail price was just under $1000

Personally, I would take a SA PX9109L over a Kimber 25th any day of the week. The SA comes with many upgrades over the Kimber and is cheaper. Plus it is easy to find the SA, any dealer can get one.

Just off the top of my head:
(1.) Real Novak low mount night sights, not the cheapo plain black Kimber sights.
(2.) Ambi safety
(3.) Real beavertial grip safety.

My local dealer has PX9109L's available for $630.

instead of The Kimber 25th Anniversary Custom for the under 1K category I'd go with the SA MC Operator. You just can't get a better gun for under 1K IMHO..... Of course I am a little biased!
