My first Colt - AR15.COM

Hey guys,

Just recently came into possession of an older 70 series Gold Cup with less than 500 rounds fired. Few light scratches, other than that great condition. Looking for a couple extra magazines. Where is best place to get them? I do want them stamped "Colt 45 Auto" like the one that came with it.

I'd just get shooting star mags, they are a little more reliable than Colt mags. I don't even know where to get Colt mags.

I see plenty of genuine Colt mags at gunshows , sorta pricey though.
Many online dealers carry them also.

I'm not sure why you'd want to stick with Colt mags, but Brownell's carries them:

Mec-gar made Colt mags, look for a M stamped on the bottom. Be careful if all you are looking for is the horsie and Colt, I'd bet there are more fake mags at shows then real ones. Most are worthless. Just get some Wilsons or the like or order new ones from a reputable dealer.

Reason I said Colt Mags was for the stamped bottom plate. But I didnt realize non-Colt mags could be stamped also. Remember this is my first Colt, I'm still learning from you guys as I did with my AR-15.

If you buy any COLT mags , just make sure they come in a sealed package, so you know
they are genuine.

Amen, lots of Chinese "Colt" mags out there that are junk. In the past year or two they have been putting Colt and a horse on the bottom of some. While the horse is not perfect, you have to look twice at them. The welds are weak, springs are crappy and the bodies are out of spec. Had one that would not even push the follower up past a narrow point, it jammed 1/3 of the way from the top. I like to give crappy dealer who knowingly sell knock offs the evil eye.
