[ARCHIVED THREAD] - recomend a 1911 for carry

Price limit is $1000.
I'm not a big person and won't be able to conceal anything fullsize.
I'm looking for somthing no bigger than officer size.

I have my eye on one of these:
Springfield PX9801L
I'm definitely going with a Kimber this time.

What do you guys recomend?

A COLT Defender Its compact and relieable new if shopping 800 range.
I carry a Para P-10 now called a Warthog 3" 10+1 Grip a little thick for a lot of people. Mine is also ammo sensetive. Likes light weight rounds. New model is lighter than mine also. I am looking to buy a Colt when I find a good used one.

I am a small person at 135lb but I can still hide a full-size 1911 on me. The 1911 gov is much easier gun to hide than any double-stack handgun including my G23.

You would be surprised how large of a gun you can carry with the right belt,holster and clothes. I have always carried a full size gun, usually a 1911. Choose you rig wisely and dress around the gun. Don't skimp on them. I hate when I see someone buy a close to $1k gun then put in a $20 holster on a $5 belt and wonder why it doesn't work.

I'm a big fan of the Micro Springfield, but that's because of how I have to carry it. My boss has told me I will be fired if I carry at work, so it is imperitive that I not be spotted. Due to this, I use a Smart Carry holster. They claim the SC can handle larger guns, but I don't see how. The Micro is as large and heavy as I think I could get away with in this rig.

The Micro fits my carry requirements and mine is very reliable. It took a bit of trian and error to get it reliable, but it now works great. For range use, I practice with standard ball ammo or even light target loads. For defensive use though, I have to use 165 grain Federals. Every 230 and 185 load I tried would jam at least once per 25 shots. It was usually a premature lock open with one round still in the magazine. It doesn't do this with the 165 Federals and I've put over 100 rounds of this through it.

When I'm not working, I carry a Champion or a full size 1911 in a high end holster with a heavy belt. When working, I carry what I can and that is the Micro.

I would carry a fullsize 1911 but my size and wardrobe won't allow it.

I've narrowed it down to either a CDP Ultra II or an Ultra Tactical II.

Get the Ultra CDP II. Try and find one that has the internal extractor. Check Gunbroker.com and Auctionarms.com

See if you can find one of the Springfield Compact Lightweight loaded (4" bbl officer frame) models on the used circuit. Get one of the later models with the ramped barrel as hollowpoints and alloy frame feedramps don't mix. You won't be dissapointed.

I'm looking to enter the 1911 group and I've also been looking for a smaller 1911. I want the bells and whistles of a Springfield TRP or Kimbers TLE, but a size down. I really like the OD lower with black slide. Got any recommendations? Should a get a base model and build it from the ground up? Post or PM me thanks.

Just put a Colt Defender in layaway this afternoon and will give range report as soon as I pickup. It did fell great in my hand and was well recomended by many I respect.

I got a SS LW Colt Defender a while ago. Besides the dot in the front site coming out, [very common from what I can tell, I just filled the hole with automotive paint.] it has been 100%, did not have to adjust the extractor, or anything else, very happy with it. Priced less then the Kimber by about 75 bucks. Conceals very well.

+1 I dont carry a 1911 but if I did it would be that. If your not set on a 1911 I would actually opt for a S&W airlite in .357. I really like the ide of one of those and a belly band.

nice scandium smith 1911 very nice.i carry my kimber uc.believe it or not the defender was like 100 bucks more than my uc back 4-5 years ago.i wanted the colt deffender.i liked the look.kinda a light aluminum color.but my uc has been 100 percent.a 3 inch 1911 is amazingly concelable and reliable to boot.

its trigger is better than some of my colt 1911s including my DE.

Check out the Pro Tactical from Kimber. I really like the features it has. My wife carries a Pro Tactical and loves it. I carry it occasionally and may even get one for myself when funds allow.
