[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Smith and Wesson 1911 cut my finger!!!

I was wondering if any of youse have had this problem. I was at the fun store today and was handling a brand new (model unknown) S&W 1911, Guy at the store said that this was a top of the line Match pistol (looked like it). Anyway, it had the ambi thumb safety and when I went to rack the slide, it cut the shit out of my finger on the safety. If this is normal, I will never buy a 1911 with an ambi safety like that. I guess that I am just too lazy/hurried to live with that. Comments?

Yes they are all like that, all of us that own S&W with ambi saftey have lost our fingers

Did the ambi safety cut your finger or was it the slide?

I have had no such problems with the ambi safety on my Kimber.

What part exactly cut you? I've never had a problem with any 1911 frames with the ambi saftey.

your question isn't very clear, did it cut your finger or your thumb, on which hand?

You didn't have the safety on when you attempted to rack it did you?

No, the safety was off, I was holding the pistol in my right hand, and when I went to rack it my index finger got caught on the safety. This gun didnt have the normal IIRC kind of blunt safety, it had like an upward wave to it and was sharp. I will try to fingd a pic of it

Odd. The safety should not be above the level of the slide when disengaged. From your description, it sounds like this one was bent up.

It was just the SW1911 5", I found it on the website, but I am too stupid to figure out how to bring it over. I think that maybe it was bent, because at their website it costs like a little over 2k and this one was going for about 1200.

Yeah it was that one, no some how it was the safety (bent or I wasnt paying attention and had my finger too low). That is a bitch gun, but I dont think I can afford it

Are you sure you cut your finger from the safety?

I'd bet you cut it on the rear sight.

I have seen a few people cut their finger in a gunshop trying to rack a slide on a Les Bauer
And always it's on the sights
