We appreciate 1911s for its beauty, style, and function. But sometimes we fail to appreciate this fine weapon have served more wars than any other issued sidearm. With that said, this thread is a tribute to the mighty daily carry, battle worn, drop and scratched, shot to shit 1911s

I dunno why, but I really like those sights..they look like they're almost drop-in replacements for USGI sights.

"Wedge" housing.

Ed Brown and Wilson both still offer them I believe.  I like it.  I prefer the wedge shape or an arched MSH.

I keep painting my 1911s that wear through, USGI or Modern 1911s, I don't buy Commie guns

When the family/friends gather (for a BBQ for instance) and you don your best jeans, highly polished cowboy boots (bonus points if they're made from exotic skins), your fanciest bolo tie, your biggest "rodeo" belt bucke holding up an elaborately tooled gunbelt and holster.....in which resides a particular pistol that you'ld be proud to wear in church.  It's gotta' be "real purdy", either highly polished nickel or a blue so deep, you can see your reflection in it from across the room.   Bonus points for exotic wood or ivory/scrimshaw grips......mucho-bonus points for elaborate engraving on the pistol.

Such a pistol is a "BBQ gun".

This was my Great-Grandfathers.  The Serial number is in the low 5 digits.  He carried it in the war, then brought it home and it guarded his house til he died.  Now it guards mine.  It looks worse in the picture than in real life, but there is some what I have been told is "blood etching" on it.  I was 8 when he died, so I never got to ask him about it.....

I would be careful with those old two tone mags, I have one and it started getting stress cracks near the back of the feed lips, you should use a newer surplus GI mag and save the two tone.

If that's an ORIGINAL "two tone" magazine,  it may be surprisingly valuable.   Store it and use a
newer, less collectible mag for daily carry or duty use.

Sweet 1911.   I have one made in 1918, myself.    It was refurbished at the Augusta Arsenal in 1964 by the stampings,  and it has some but a not of wear to the OD parkerized finish that was applied at
that time.    My father bought it for 14 bucks in 1964 or 1965 via the DCM and NRA.

CJ

I know exactly what it's worth.  I've got some GI mags that work fine.
I use the two-tone mag at the range.  I run about 100-1000 rounds a year through it.
It's the best stock 1911 or A1 that I've ever owned.  It does not jam, even with Hydra-Shok or other social engineering ammo.

Here's mine.  Currently on duty in Iraq.  Qualified with her the other day, no jams!
Standard 25 Meter qualification which consists of 7 rounds standing, 6 & 7 rounds with magazine change kneeling, 5 & 5 rounds w/mag change crouching, and 5 & 5 rounds w/mag change from the prone, all timed.  194 points out of 200.  When I got this gun it was packed in GAA (Grease, Artillery and Automotive).  While the finish is worn, detailed stripping too degrease (done with diesel) revealed the sear, disconnect and extractor were like new.  Since no jams, I've stopped carrying the M9, and carry the 1911A1 as my side arm instead.  It is much faster getting into action than the double action M9, and easier to hit with, due to the consistent trigger pull.  I LOVE the 1911!!!

Buy a Colt 1991A1, a Springfield Mil-Spec, or Kimber Custom (stay simple) chambered in .45ACP.   Get some Wilson or McCormick magazines, buy standard velocity 230gr ammo for it, learn the way to clean and lube it, RESIST the urge to replace parts on your own, and make sure any modifications you do make to it enhance its performance and are done by someone that knows the gun.  Odds are very good you'll end up with a gun you trust and shoot well with.

I keep a couple of Shooting Star mags loaded and ready to go next to it in the safe.  The two tone mag rarely gets used anymore...
