I've seen some pictures of a 1911 slide that a gun smith has turned into a dragons head. Ive never been able to find one. Ive been trying to find it for a display peice. Anyone know anything? price?

The gun you’re referring to is a project of Mark Krebs that was recently featured in a gun magazine. Don’t recall which one though... I’d have to look.

Correct, in the article he stated that they arnt making them anymore, which lead me to believe that they built atleast a few of them.

Actually the article that I read on that gun stated that it was the slide of 1911 that had ruptured from a blown barrel and already had kind of a dragon look to it. Who ever the guy was that was working on it was either in a 1911 gunsmith school or was an instructor for one. The slide was being machined to look like a dragon with its mouth open so when the weapon was shot it would look like he was breathing fire. If that is the same one that your talking about.

In that one I do not think they ever intended to make another, just a one time thing.

Ive seen several pics of them done by Marc. There was a full color spread in a Gun Games magazine years ago.

I might be thinking of someone/something else. The one I am thinking of may have been in the new G&A 1911 edition. Not sure. I looked last night with no luck but I have a bunch of mags to go through. I will post it if I find it.

I think an article about this gun was featured in the Book of the 1911, a gunrag compilation of several months ago.

Seems I recall that the slide was thicker on one side than the other, or had some other cosmetic defect, so this was his way of salvaging it.

Thats not the one. Krebs actually turns the front of the slide into a dragons head using very intricate metalwork.

The article I read on this gun was in "The Complete Book of the 1911" magazine.....or something to that effect. The front of the mag has a pic of the Colt WWII reissue.

I remember about 10 years ago someone milled and stoned a dragon on a sti frame and slide, it had ports for nostrils (actualy it might have been a mitchals slide/comp, they cut the TOP of the slide and re-cessed the comp in/to the slide, looked like standard profile) even had a goatee, i think i saw it in an issure of gun games, that gun was "THE SHIT" i cut it out and hung it in my shop, but like everything cool someone took it... if its not the gun your looking for look for this too... being a gunsmith for 20y i MUST say it was a work of art (on a hi-cap frame) it was fluid.......

It wouldnt be that hard to do. It would just take some BIG BALLS to get the Dremel close to it at first. From one of the articles that I read, he had gotton a flawed slide and decided to use it rather than pitch it.
