Springield GI Milspec
An acquaintance is getting a divorce and selling some of his guns. This was one of them. Private sale, no tax or FFL fees. Original box, paperwork, and only fired a couple of times. I figure it wasn't like some of the guys on here that come across real WWII GI's for $400, but I'm still happy.

My thoughts exactly. I was not looking to buy another 1911 right now, but I'm not quite sure how I could have passed this up. Even my wife is agreement so the stars must have aligned or something...
Does anyone know how many of the GI Milspecs they made before Springfield stop making them? |

I have the commander length version of that and it's been a great gun. I'll probably get another but the version with the Novak style cuts in the future.

Good deal, when they first came out they were just a bit more then $400 but that one is later with much nicer packaging and the original pricing quickly rose by around $200. Downside is a two piece barrel, MIM extracor, [won't hold tension, if it won't just toss and replace with a Wilson Buletproof or Cylinder and Slide] and a [usually] glued in ejector. Excellent pistols to do a build on. Well worth $400.

The Mil-spec and the GI are two different models. The one you're looking at is the GI (no longer made). It will have the original near useless GI sights. It's a decent 1911. $400 is a fair price IF you really want a GI type pistol. Most end up throwing money at these to get better sights, trigger, etc.

Bought a GI Champion back when they were $400 new, I'd love to come across a fullsize for that price.
It's been a great gun. Like many have said the sights leave a bit to be desired, changing them takes a little effort due to SA's unique tenon. Not much is still original on mine, never had any issue when it was though. Half the appeal of a low cost 1911 is changing it to suit me. |

R U crazy??? I'd have broken my wrist reaching for my wallet. I bought a lightly used SA GI three years ago for $450, so I'd say $400 was pretty good. I'd buy another one in a second.

Even with 15 percent of the finish gone from holster wear like mine I would be on it at that price.
You are getting a deal and helping a buddy out. Hold on to it and offer it back at cost once he is back on his feet. |
