My E. German Maks are made beautifully and point more naturally for me then just about any other handgun I own.

May as well add my $0.02 worth. Mine's a Russian Mak. It has a really nice trigger that's gotten even better with time, points well and is accurate. Don't care much for the adjustable "target" sights but they work okay. I'd like to get an E German or Bulgarian Mak with fixed sights.

BB,

FYI-I started w/a Bulgy Mak...There is no comparison between a Bulgy and an EG.  Just the bluing alone shows the difference in quality.  I sold my Bulgy and went w/EG's. IMHO I'd wait until I could afford it and get the EG.

I'll get a Russian just because I can and they're C&R's too.  I got a set of target grips from Makarov.com for a Russian.

Since they are reliable and shoot any ammo I think of them as Glock's w/soul.

Have to say for my .02 cents I love this Baikal more than the rest of Pistols I've owned, shoots good, carries great in a Don Hume, cheap ammo. etc.The option for me was a Kahr P9 or P40 but could'nt face knowing the wear and tear on the Kahr from carrying and the price for use....Just what the Doctor ordered.............Makarov

Hi houtexgunner,

Welcome aboard!

3 EG's (1 in 99% condition!) man that German quality...even though they were Commies it still shines thru.  I had a Bulgie and the differences were so great that I sold it after I got a look at my 1st EG!

I love Maks! (big suprise) I own 2 EGs & 2 Bulgies. One of each are my "shooters" and I have one of each in truly New, Unissued condition. I bought my EGs when AIM had them for $150 and I think that included shipping!

Not until I get an action job and better sights. SA is light and crisp, but the DA is so heavy it took some practice before I wasn't "double tapping."

Not good for a carry gun. Is there another smith doing Mak work at the level of Geoff?

I guess I am bumping this back to current. Ive post here before but have an update. Sold my Russian IJ when I found a Simson Suhl. Got it for what I sold my IJ plus $100 bucks, still steep but very very nice. I love Makarovs!

W-W, thanks for the welcome!
