Is it series 70 or 80?

What exactly is the difference?

Ser 80 is a firing pin block plunger, Pulling the trigger pushes the plunger out of the way and allows the firing pin to go by. If the trigger is not pulled the firing pin is blocked. (ser 80 firing pin block)

Springfield has not used this so far. To get past the Ca. tests, they did go with a Ti firing pin. this allows the gun to be droped from a high height onto concrete and not fire (Very important test, we can't go around shooting Concrete can we)
To make up for the Ti firing pin they use a very heavy hammer spring. Springfield also uses a key in the main spring housing to block the hammer when locked.

Very good EGW! I'm impressed! To be certain, those CA mods are recent, so it depends on when the gun was manufactured. The older Mil Specs are the same as the original Browning 1911 design.

The easy way to tell if the gun has the new system is the Main Spring safety. The new gun will include mim hammer sear and assortes squirted stuff.

Early Springfield sears in particular were pretty solid, steel main spring housings and often they shot well.

Nothing wrong with series 80.....fact is...you can by-pass the 80`s "extra" features if it`s necessary.......the springfield mil-spec is one of the top 1911 clones you can buy right now...........
