That sure looks like a Broomhandle hammer, and the ribbed portrusions near it look Broomy too. Some kind of home/Afghan/Chinese workshop job? I've seen a lot of guns built in small workshops in China, and they were conglomerations of different guns.

The owner said he believes it was made in the middle east, maybe a home shop build. The numbers throw me if it is a small shop build. The numbers in the pic are the only markings on the pistol.

The story behind it is a coworker who collects guns he doesn't want was at an antique shop. The shop owner buys estate items like jewelery, coins, and guns. My coworker actually was in there looking for mechanical beer signs, that is his passion. So the shop owner asked him if he had ever seen a gun like the pictured gun before. My friend said "No" and asked what it is. The shop owner said he did not know but would sell it for $40. My coworker bought it. So far no one has been able to identify it. The shop owner did not have the history of the pistol because the previous owner had died and his family brought in the gun.

It's a 'Khyber Pass' copy of a Mauser or some-such handgun.
Doesn't neccesarily mean it came from Afghanistan, just that it came from some third world hand made gun forge. The brazed on triggerguard would be a good indicator of 'hand manufacture'. |

It has not been fired by the current owner and the caliber is unknown.
