I want to have a .38 super "race" gun built from my Colt .38 super. Thinking about sights, a comp, front checkering, scope mount, red dot etc... Can anyone suggest a decent builder that doesn't have a long waiting list/turnaround(over 1 year)?

Benny’s one of the best and certainly the FASTEST ‘smith doing this sort of work.  My advice?  If Benny recommends it, do it.  Even though he’s a little rough around the edges he has an enviable reputation within the IPSC community.

A single stack "race gun"? Down here everyone is going to the SV/STI 9mm's.Most I have seen are comander size gun's.Fwiw, you would be better geting a used Race gun and keep the Colt as a carry gun.IMO
Also, I have seen hi-cp 9mm's and super race gun's in the $1200-$1800 with mags.

3-Gun Member,

You make complete sense but we don’t know WHERE he’ll racing or WHAT the race will be.  In California, Hawaii and Canada you can’t have more than ten rounds so a SS that one OWNS rather than having to BUY one makes some sense.  A single stack is also not a disadvantage for “Speed Steel” or “Pin” shoots.

That said, I wouldn't pour a lot of money into a SS race gun unless I HAD to.
