The Thunder Ranch S&W model 21-4  .44 Special Revolver .

This is supposed to be out sometime in the late summer. I got to get one to go along with the .44 Bulldog!

Now if they'd just make it in .45ACP

What's the big difference between new and old?

The keyed safety lock above the cylinder release and the new triggers that are made out of some screwed up alloy that you don't dare put a stone to.

Robert2011,
Jeez, do you think ALL of the guns will have the cheezy logo shown in the picture? I guess it is nothing that can't be fixed with a Dremel tool...but it is just so...well...tacky. I still got to have a couple of them, though. The .44spec is my favorite revolver cartridge. Thanks for the link to the picture.

I can't wait for the Thunder Ranch stetson.

They still don't list it at the Smith and Wesson website.  A magazine review was saying the list would be $800, so I will probably have to wait a while before I get one. ARs are taking all my money for a while.

edited to add, it should be out next month.

The pictures of this gun (thunder ranch special) in American Handgunner showed that the keyed safety lock was conspicously absent. I would hope on a gun endorsed by Clint Smith that this would be the case (no lock). If it really doesn't have the lock I'll get one. Otherwise forget it.

I've got a 5-shot 3" BBL SS S&W 696 and a 2 1/8" BBL 5-shot Al/Ti 296. The 296 is a handful shooting factory 44spls though, so I had load some real mild rounds for it. Cool shooting guns. They don't have the integral safety lock.

If only they would make a Triple Lock again.................

Bushjumper,
I sure hope you are right about the absence of a keyed safety on the Thunder Ranch Special. The simple presence of it would piss me off as much as the tacky assed gold TR logo on the right side plate does...I still gotta have one though.

Warlord,
Aren't those 696s great? I shoot a 250gr Keith over 13.5 grs of 2400 out of mine and feel damned well armed with it whether I am in a bad part of Houston or at the ranch in Zavala County. Had to put a Tyler T Grip on it though to keep it from jumping out of my hand with the Keiths. What is your "carry" load?

M199,
A current production triple lock? Maybe in the hereafter...but we can dream................

IMHO they are overpriced, at about $900.00 per copy.

Whats next? Thunder Ranch undies and handkerchiefs?

.44 special is a very good, manageable round, but my search will continue for something not so pricey.
